The games clatter before her.
Dice dance on green felt,
coins sing with every wager.
Cards slide across to every player.
A desperate choreography of being sought out.
Cigarette smoke in the air.
Thin.
Sweet.
Already fading.
He wears a borrowed charm, dressed in confidence.
A stacked deck passing hand to hand,
chasing applause in rooms lined with mirrors.
No velvet rope for strangers’ praises,
only the hunger of being seen,
being desired.
Crowned with lustful eyes, fed by admiration,
he survives on imagined touches,
desire is dealt face-up, rehearsed,
a trick learned at the table.
She sees it all,
and she will not beg.
Her lips bruise against quiet restraint,
not from silence,
but because she knows the odds –
refusing to play his bluff.
Devotion turns inward,
a private vow.
Dark lace patience.
Pulse steady,
like a blade laid flat beside the chips.
Refusal is not spoken.
It arrives tempered.
Warmth withdraws.
He’s learned how to rule the room,
but he does not rule her.
What remains does not chase.
She knows the truth by heart:
Anything that needs a crowd
will never know quiet.
She will not compete with the crowd.
No curses stitched to his name,
no spectacle when she loses.
Only the soft click of a woman
standing from the table,
Leaving her cards untouched,
refusing to play the game.
She calls it peace.
She calls it choosing herself.
The house answers only to her.
The silences gather.
Soft.
Deliberate.
Lethal.
He win.
He always wins.
Let others circle.
Leave them to their longing.
Let them mistake noise for flame.
She is quiet, a loaded gun,
walking away with contemplation,
unafraid to play Russian Roulette.
Her hand is steady,
she does not fear the end.
She does not audition for his attention.
She does not roll the dice for approval.
She exists.
Without her wager,
the game loses meaning,
the lights dim,
the table goes cold,
and the house collapses.
